Manufacturer Light-Output Testing

• Low beam: Morimoto reports an increase from 700 lux with the tested halogen headlight to 2,010 lux with the XB LED headlight.
• High beam: Morimoto reports an increase from 1,680 lux with the tested halogen headlight to 2,360 lux with the XB LED headlight.

Product Description

The factory 997 headlights fit the shape of the car well, so replacing them with something overly styled can look out of place. Morimoto kept the outside profile close to the original housing and changed what is inside it. The black bezel, LED light pipe and projector arrangement borrow some detail from the newer 992 without making the front end look like a generic headlight conversion.

The main functional change is the Kuria Bi-LED projector. One LED projector handles both the low and high beams, giving the car modern LED output without separate bulbs or external HID ballasts. Morimoto also publishes actual lux measurements for these assemblies, so the output improvement is more than a styling claim.

The sequential DRL is the most obvious change during the day. It runs at full brightness as a daytime running light and dims when the parking lights or low beams are switched on. If you want a newer lighting signature while keeping the recognizable 997 headlight shape, that is the main reason to go with this setup.

The downside applies to 997.2 cars. The assemblies physically fit, but they do not retain the factory adaptive headlight function. PIWIS coding is required to prevent an AFS warning, so we would arrange that with a Porsche specialist before starting the installation.
