Morimoto Lighting Questions Answered
XB LED Assembly vs. 2Stroke Bulb Upgrade
XB LED Headlight Assemblies
The Morimoto XB LED series replaces the entire headlight housing with a purpose-built LED assembly that uses a dedicated projector optic, LED chip, and housing designed to work together. This produces a sharper, more controlled beam pattern than a bulb swap and avoids the compatibility issues that can come from putting an LED bulb into a reflector housing designed for halogen. It's the more expensive option, but delivers the best real-world performance and DOT compliance.
2Stroke LED Replacement Bulbs
The Morimoto 2Stroke line is a plug-in LED bulb that fits directly into your factory housing in place of the OEM halogen bulb. The 3.0 and 4.0 versions use a fanless design that fits in more factory housings without modification. This is a more affordable upgrade that works well in projector-style OEM housings, and is simpler to install than a full assembly replacement.
Which Should You Choose?
If Morimoto makes an XB LED assembly for your vehicle and budget allows, the assembly is almost always the better long-term choice for output, fitment, and DOT compliance. If your vehicle doesn't have an XB assembly available, or if you want a simpler and less expensive upgrade that keeps your factory housings, the 2Stroke bulb is the right path.
