Make your F-chassis BMW loud when you want to hear it, then close the valve when you want the car closer to its factory sound. This Version 2 valved axle-back from Valvetronic Designs works with four-cylinder, N55 and B58-powered BMW models, including the 320i, 328i, 335i, 340i, 428i, 435i, 440i, M235i and M240i.
The V2 system has revised muffler internals that make the exhaust smoother and quieter with the valve closed. Open the valve and the exhaust takes on a deeper, more aggressive sound with louder shifts, pops and overrun sounds.
Valvetronic also updated the valve design, moved the hangers and added a cast Y-pipe for better flow and a cleaner exhaust tone. The complete axle-back is made from brushed T304 stainless steel and comes with your choice of 3.5-inch exhaust tips.

Important Fitment Notes
- Cars equipped with the factory electronic exhaust valve can connect the supplied extension harness to the factory valve wiring.
- Cars without a factory exhaust valve require a separate electronic valve control kit to operate the valve from inside the car.
- Four-cylinder applications include an adapter pipe. Valvetronic recommends welding the adapter during installation.
- Four-cylinder cars require a six-cylinder-style rear diffuser or modification of the existing diffuser to clear the dual exhaust outlets.
- B46 and B58 applications require minor modification of the factory mid-pipe.
- Cars equipped with the BMW M Performance Power and Sound Kit require additional exhaust modification.
- The system fits the factory mid-pipe and most aftermarket mid-pipes that retain the factory connection and dimensions.
How the Valved Exhaust Works
This system uses an OEM-style electronic exhaust valve. On cars with factory valve wiring, the supplied extension harness allows the exhaust to work with the BMW drive-mode controls.
- Valve open: Exhaust bypasses the quieter muffler path for a deeper and much louder sound with more noticeable shifts, pops and overrun sounds.
- Valve closed: Exhaust is routed through the revised muffler for a smoother tone and sound levels closer to the factory exhaust.
If your BMW did not come with a factory exhaust valve, you will need the optional electronic valve controller. That kit gives you a wireless remote so you can open or close the valve yourself.

Installation
This is an axle-back system, but the installation requirements depend on your engine and factory exhaust setup. Six-cylinder N55 cars with the correct factory connection have the most straightforward installation. B46 and B58 cars need minor mid-pipe modification, while four-cylinder cars use the included adapter pipe and should have it welded in place.
Check the rear diffuser before starting the installation. Cars that originally came with a single exhaust outlet need a six-cylinder-style diffuser or an existing diffuser modified for the second outlet.
