Advanced Fuel Dynamics ProFlex Commander for BMW E46 M3 S54 (01-06) E85 Flex Fuel System

Run gasoline, E85 or any mixture of the two in your E46 M3 without switching maps every time you fill up. The Advanced Fuel Dynamics ProFlex Commander reads the ethanol content in the fuel and adjusts injector operation as the mixture changes.

AFD’s E46 M3 dyno testing showed gains of more than 20 wheel horsepower on E85. You also get more of that S54 sound and response without being locked into running full E85 every time you drive the car.

Fitment Note

The years above reflect U.S.-market E46 M3 fitment. Advanced Fuel Dynamics lists the application as 2000–2006 to cover markets where the E46 M3 was available earlier.

This kit is made for the E46 M3 with the 3.2L S54 engine. It does not fit non-M E46 models such as the 325i, 328i or 330i.

Commander Options

• Standard Commander: Made for naturally aspirated E46 M3s with factory injectors or mild bolt-on upgrades. This is the right choice for most street-driven S54 builds.
• Commander Pro: Made for supercharged, turbocharged or heavily modified builds using 600cc, 60 lb/hr or larger injectors. It provides more precise control when running larger injectors.

Sensor Options

• Standard Sensor: Provides accurate ethanol-content readings and works well with stock or mildly modified fuel systems.
• E-SENSE Sensor: The better choice for modified and higher-flow fuel systems. It adds fuel-temperature monitoring and additional live data through the ProFlex Connect app.

How the ProFlex Commander Works

The ethanol sensor measures the actual mixture of gasoline and ethanol in the fuel system. The ProFlex Commander uses that reading to adjust injector operation, whether the tank contains pump gas, full E85 or anything in between.

The system works with compatible factory and performance gasoline tunes. If you change the blend on your next fill-up, the Commander adjusts automatically instead of making you drain the tank or load another map.

Fuel System Requirements

A naturally aspirated E46 M3 with factory injectors can use the Standard Commander. Supercharged, turbocharged and higher-horsepower cars may need larger injectors, a higher-flow fuel pump or other fuel-system upgrades to safely run full E85.

AFD recommends dyno testing or data logging a supercharged E46 M3 to make sure the fuel pump and injectors can keep up with the additional fuel demand.

Emissions Information

The ProFlex Commander does not remove or replace emissions equipment. It reads the ethanol content in the fuel and electronically adjusts injector operation so the engine can run gasoline, E85 or any mixture of the two.

Advanced Fuel Dynamics does not publish a CARB Executive Order number for this kit. California emissions compliance will depend on the engine, vehicle and approval status of the complete setup.

• Choose the Commander Pro for forced-induction builds or injectors rated at 600cc, 60 lb/hr or larger.
• Select the sensor that matches the fuel flow and monitoring needs of your build.
• Supercharged and turbocharged cars should be logged or tested on a dyno before running full E85.
• The ProFlex Commander manages changing ethanol content, but it does not replace the proper tuning required for forced induction or major engine modifications.
