Yonaka Exhaust for Mazda Miata NA (1990-1997) 2.5" Polished / Black Powder Coated

Give your NA Miata a deeper exhaust note without ending up with the buzzy, raspy sound that comes with a lot of cheap exhaust systems.

This Yonaka catback uses 2.5-inch mandrel-bent stainless piping with a 3.5-inch tip. It is louder and deeper than the stock Miata exhaust, but the muffler keeps the sound clean enough for a car that still gets driven regularly. Choose the fully polished version or the black powder-coated version for a more subtle look under the car.

Fitment Note

• Designed to bolt to the factory exhaust connection and use the original hanger locations
• The factory catalytic converter is retained
• 1996-1997 Miatas have an additional oxygen sensor in the midpipe
• The exhaust physically fits 1996-1997 models, but an oxygen-sensor bung must be added to the midpipe
• The oxygen-sensor bung is not included and must be welded in by an exhaust shop or qualified fabricator

Product Description

The factory NA Miata exhaust is pretty quiet, especially once you are moving with the top down. The Yonaka catback lets you hear more of the engine without making the car sound raspy every time you run it through the gears.

The exhaust finishes with a 3.5-inch tip, and some Miata owners compare the Yonaka to the APEXi WS2 because of its similar appearance and deeper, quieter exhaust note. If you like the sound and low-key look of the WS2, the Yonaka is worth considering.

The 2.5-inch piping is larger than stock and uses mandrel bends to keep the exhaust path smooth. It is a good setup for a mostly stock Miata, a car with basic intake upgrades or an NA build that needs a complete replacement for an old and rusted factory exhaust.

The polished version gives you the traditional stainless exhaust look. The black version uses the same basic exhaust design with a high-temperature powder coating that hides more of the piping and muffler when viewed from behind the car.

Before You Buy

If you have a 1996 or 1997 Miata, plan on having an oxygen-sensor bung welded into the new midpipe before installation. Yonaka does not include the bung with the exhaust. Confirm this work with your installer before ordering if you do not have access to welding equipment.

Exhaust sound will vary depending on the engine, header, catalytic converter and other modifications. Cars with an aftermarket header or high-flow catalytic converter will generally be louder than a Miata with the factory exhaust manifold and catalytic converter.

Installation Notes

• Inspect the factory catalytic-converter flange, studs and rubber hangers before installation
• Loosely assemble and align the complete exhaust before tightening the flange hardware
• Check clearance around the rear subframe, differential and bumper after installation
• Recheck the flange hardware after the exhaust has gone through several heat cycles
• Professional installation is recommended for 1996-1997 models because of the required oxygen-sensor bung
