Product Description

Solo-Werks S1 coilovers give an A1 Golf, Jetta, Rabbit, Cabriolet, or Scirocco the lower stance and more controlled feel these cars are known for. The S1VW001 kit uses fixed-valve, gas-charged twin-tube dampers matched to vehicle-specific springs, so it is a straightforward setup for a street-driven MK1 rather than a coilover that needs damper adjustment every time you change the ride height.

Height adjustment is available at all four corners, with an approximate 1.6 to 2.8-inch drop front and rear. The zinc-plated housings, anodized adjustment hardware, dust boots, and bumpstops are built for regular use, while helper springs keep the main springs seated when the suspension is fully extended. Front eccentric alignment bolts are included, along with the spanner wrenches needed to set the car where you want it.

Setting Up S1 Coilovers on an A1 VW

On a car this old, it is worth checking the strut mounts, bearings, bushings, tie rods, hubs, and wheel bearings while the suspension is apart. Solo-Werks specifically recommends replacing worn mounts and bearings before installation. It is also good to set the final height with your wheels and tires installed, since wheel offset and tire size can affect clearance. Once the car is at its final height, have it aligned and avoid lowering it beyond Solo-Werks’ recommended operating range.
