Highly recommended as a first modification to your S58 powered G Series BMW, these skid plates offer protection from damage to your oil cooler. Especially recommended for lowered cars. Our G82 M4 received an oil cooler skid plate as one of our first mods, and we highly recommend this one as a fair priced and extremely well built unit. Don't pay extra for other skid plates that work just as well.
One detail that's easy to miss during install: leave the factory rubber air dam strip in place in front of the oil cooler. That strip is doing real work. It creates a pressure differential that pulls air through the oil cooler core more efficiently, and pulling it off in the name of a cleaner look will cost you some of that airflow benefit even with the skid plate installed. If you're running this on a track car or anything making real power, that small strip matters more than it looks like it should.

- The S58 engine's oil cooler sits low and parallel to the road surface on all of these chassis, which is exactly why this is one of the most common first modifications owners make. This is especially important on lowered cars, where reduced ground clearance significantly increases the odds of curb strikes, speed bump contact, or road debris reaching the factory plastic undertray.
- During installation, leave the factory rubber air dam strip in place in front of the oil cooler. That strip creates the pressure differential that pulls air efficiently through the oil cooler core, and removing it can reduce cooling performance even with this skid plate installed. Installation hardware is included and the install is a direct bolt-on at the factory mounting points with no modifications required.
