An axle-back exhaust system is an aftermarket component that replaces the section of the exhaust system that sits behind the rear axle of a vehicle. It includes the muffler, tailpipe, and any other associated components that connect to the exhaust system after the rear axle. Upgrading to an aftermarket axle-back exhaust can improve the sound and performance of a vehicle, but it typically does not significantly increase horsepower or torque.
